Our Community Services

Silver Socials Group

The Friendship Club is our community service for people who can benefit from the support offered in a group setting. Our community service is more usually known as The Friendship Club for a very good reason – one of our primary aims is to have great fun so that everyone goes home with a smile on their face. We might be a little more mature in our years, but that means we’ve had more time to learn how to enjoy ourselves!

We get together three days a week and spend our time playing games, out-doing each other on quizzes, being entertained by visiting groups and even kicking footballs! We take a break for a lovely cooked lunch, prepared by The Coffee Shop, and enjoy light refreshments throughout the day. If the weather is good we also like to go to the pub for lunch, and once in a while we descend on our local theatres for some matinee entertainment.

The most important aspect of the Friendship Club is the chance to get out of the house and meet up with friends. We pride ourselves on our warm and welcoming atmosphere.

If you or a member of your family are interested in joining us, please email us or give us a call on 01844 353733 and talk to Emily or Nina or you can email us at daycare@chinnorvillagecentre.org

Our Friendship Club runs from 10.00 until 15.00, and costs just £29 a day including attendance, entertainment, minibus transport, refreshments and lunch.

Forget Me Knot Café

This group is for people who are experiencing or caring for someone with memory loss, dementia, alzheimer’s, mental health issues, old age or isolation.
The Forget Me Knot Café meets on a Monday (10.30-12.00) providing information, peer support and fun activities which are aimed to help with co-ordination, brain stimulation, and general health and well-being. People and their carers can gather to support each other and share information. Groups usually offer reminiscence based activities and advice in an informal setting.
Our meetings allow people who suffer from a variety of memory problems to meet with other memory loss sufferers. Just as importantly, it also allows carers who are sharing similar experiences to meet up and offer support to each other.

The Cafe is an informal group, run by trained volunteers and staff, backed up by local specialists, the meetings allow people to relax in a supportive environment and enjoy a regular break away from the pressures of every day life.

You will be welcomed with a cup of tea and a biscuit. We start with fun seated exercises, followed by an activity provided by our visiting expert. Towards the end of the meeting we play parachute games, juggling, throwing balls, flat football, floor netball, finishing the meeting with a poem, lyrical or a reading.

We often use music, books, puzzles and other items to trigger reminiscing and encourage conversations about things from the past. We also plan to have occasional away days and parties.

For activity dates and details see the ‘What’s On‘ section of this website or visit www.facebook.com/forgetmeknotcafe

Stroke Club

This support group meets every two weeks at the Centre and is for stroke survivors.

Our Stroke Club is a special community group for stroke survivors. It arose from a number of stroke survivors wanting to set up a group specific to them, so that they could help and support one another through difficult times.

We aim to provide a regular meeting place for people to come together and share their experiences, as well as the opportunity to take part in a programme of activities. That makes us sound very serious when, in fact, we are anything but. Primarily we are a social group who meet up once a fortnight to share stories, ideas, tips and advice, and also some banter. It gives us a chance to get out of the house, meet up with friends and to help us have a positive outlook on life. It also gives our partners and carers a break.

For more information call us on 01844 353733 and speak to Emily or Nina or drop us an email.

Our Community Minibus

Our minibus is used to transport our Day Care customers during the week and is available for use by individuals in the evenings and most weekends. Why not consider using it for your community group outing? All you need is a section 19 bus permit and away you go.

Why go in separate cars? It’s much more fun travelling together and it’s more economical and environmentally friendly.

If you would like to use our minibus to help with your transport demands please contact us to find out more.

Weekly Trips to Thame

Every Tuesday we offer a fantastic value for money service from Chinnor and our surrounding villages.

Is carrying those heavy shopping bags home from the bus stop a pain? Would you like to get to Thame more cheaply than using the bus? If you need to get out the house and do some shopping in Thame then look no further.

The minibus will pick you up from your home (think of it like your personal chauffeur) and deliver you safely to Thame, where you can visit the popular market. Whatever the reason for your visit, we will pick you up and bring you home. We provide a door-to-door service and can even help with carrying your shopping to your door should you need it.

This service runs every Tuesday morning from about 10.30am. Contact us to arrange a booking.
